I was stoned somewhere in France when I met Jesus
And we talked about the things I left behind
And I asked him if it's hip to be the savior
And he said "Jesus, man, it's just a state of mind."

Well I tried to break free
And I tried to be me
But is it right to be yourself
If you're not who you want to be?

So I sank under the Seine and swam for freedom
And forsook my drugs and sex and rock 'n' roll
And I lingered drinking Beaujolais with Jesus
'Til he told me, "Man, your gospel is your soul."

Well I had to break free
To find out what the folks back home all meant to me
But now I know just what I want
And I'm not where I'm supposed to be

I'm getting tired of being the same, young, restless man
Smoking revelations 'cause he hasn't got a plan
